In a departure from stretch lace and structureless
gowns, Mia Solano’s 2017 collection responds to current bridal trends with a
hint of old world glamour and a whole lot of high quality construction that has
made the label what it is. Famous for defined tailoring, waist cinching
silhouettes and impossibly hidden but heavy-duty boning, Mia Solano applies
skills acquired over forty years in the industry to this extensive and varied collection, suitable for
brides of all shapes and sizes. In a
move toward the promotion of a classically feminine silhouette and body positivity,
Mia Solano’s range of 2017 gowns are available up to a size 28 and accommodate
a bust, celebrate a booty and if so desired, beautifully trace the line of a
womanly thigh. Stylistically, this collection captured on the city streets of sunny
Brisbane beneath the columns of the historic Treasury Casino seeks to emulate
the chic contemporary style of a modern New York woman while remaining
accessible to Australian brides, both in price and the practical
demands of trying and buying.
Notable features of the collection aside from the
construction elements synonymous with Solano, are unusual fabrics such as
uniquely patterned tulles in addition to the classic hail spot, lace appliqué
motifs in luxurious guipure: both botanical and art deco in design, anxiously
anticipated illusion necklines: bordered by both lace and beading, and low back
lines both open and enclosed, giving bigger busted brides an opportunity to
wear style that was previously relatively unsuitable. It is predictable that
the back views of the gowns in this collection will be a big draw card for
2017/18 brides and an eventual talking point for their wedding guests. Mia
Solano maximizes this trend with intricate lace and beadwork transforming what
was once bare skin, beautiful though it is, into artful displays almost
tattoo-like in appeal.
Unexpected in this collection is the range of colour
utilized by Mia Solano. The gowns pictured above are available in classic white
and ivory and less traditional ‘champagne’ and ‘vintage rose.’ This makes for a
collectively moody assortment of gowns that offer drama and individuality
culminating in the aptly named, DIOR gown (pictured) which, like its namesake,
sets a couture tone that elevates an ultimately accessible collection.
Acting as a
metalsmith, Mia Solano applies the finishing touches to a number of gowns in
this collection with luxe details in gold and silver, which takes the form of
beading- both statement and subtle, concentrated and sparse. Lace motifs are guilded
in metallic thread and thoughtfully positioned as in the design of the DESI and
DAKOTA gowns (pictured).
Possibly their most fashion forward collection yet,
2017 by Mia Solano ultimately draws inspiration from a glamorous past, flatters
the female form in classical way and propels Mia Solano into a bridal age
unrivaled in variety, versatility and accessiblity. Mia Solano has done much to
offer their brides choice comparable to that which, until now, existed mostly
in the virtual realms of Pinterest and the stores of Europe. The collection is
currently on a nation-wide trunkshow tour and will be available in Mia’s eight
Australian stores before Valentine’s Day.

OMG!! These bridal gowns are really amazing. For my sister’s wedding at one of wedding venues she had a beautiful gown designed by her best friend. I am planning to have my wedding dress also designed by her.
